SMPC User's Manual Explanation of words
- SMPC (System Management & Peripheral Control)
- Reset management and control of Saturn system Controls the interface with peripheral devices such as PAD. In addition, it is equipped with an RTC (Real Time Clock) function that allows battery backup, allowing you to set and acquire a calendar clock.
- SCSP (Saturn Custom Sound Processor)
- A multifunctional game sound source LSI that combines a PCM sound source and a sound DSP.
- DSP (Digital Signal Processor)
- This is a high-speed calculation dedicated circuit that mainly performs calculations (multiplication / addition) at high speed.
- VDP1 (Video Display Processor 1)
- An LSI that controls the drawing of sprites and polygons. VRAM and framebuffer are connected to VDP1. They use the drawing commands transferred from the CPU to VRAM to perform the drawing in the framebuffer. After that, the drawing data is transferred from the frame buffer to VDP2 at the request of VDP2 and displayed on the display device.
- VDP2 (Video Display Processor 2)
- The scroll surface control function and the priority function are carried.
- PLL (Phase Locked Loop)
- With various clocks of the Saturn system (clock generators for CPU, system control, image drawing / display, sound, etc.).
- SCU (System Control Unit)
- Equipped with CPU I / F, A-Bus I / F, and B-Bus I / F controllers, it smoothly executes data transfer between each bus. Furthermore, the DMA controller, the interrupt controller, and the DSP are carried in the inside, and the DMA control, the interrupt control, and the high-speed arithmetic processing are realized.
- Main CPU
- The 32-bit RISC CPU SH-2 which controls the whole system is carried.
- MC68EC000
- It is a CPU for sound control centered on SCSP. It functions as an SCSP control.
- V-BLANK-IN
- It is one of three types of blanking interrupts. This interrupt indicates the end timing of the screen display.
- V-BLANK-OUT
- It is one of three types of blanking interrupts. This interrupt indicates the start timing of screen display.
- H-BLANK-IN
- It is one of three types of blanking interrupts. This interrupt indicates the display end timing of one line.
- Peripheral
- Peripheral device connected to Saturn, which refers to control PAD, mouse, keyboard, etc.
