Tools for Macintosh

SpriteEditor doesn't generate a list of sprites and palettes.

Q)
In SpriteEditor, the data showing the relationship between the palette and sprite is not output as text.

A)
This is a specification for the following reasons.

Therefore, please refer to the binary output if absolutely necessary. The format is available on Nifty's support forum.

Is there a tool for creating bitmap scroll data?

Q)
I want to create bitmap data, but it seems that the currently provided Map Editor and Screen Editor cannot do it. Is there any good way?

A)
When creating bitmap data, use Sprite Editor instead of Map Editor or Screen Editor to create a DGT file, and then use DG2TXR or the like to convert it to C source format RGB code. However, this tool (DG2TXR) can only generate colors in 16 bits, so in the case of a bitmap of 16 million colors, the user has to create a converter.

When I bring a DXF file created with another tool to the 3D Editor, an error occurs.

Q)
When I save the modeling data created by the Macintosh modeler in DXF format and load it into the 3D Editor, the polygons are missing.
Also, when reading a file,

"POLYLINE exists in this DXF file"

Is displayed, but I don't understand the meaning.

A)
Not all features that DXF files generally have are available in SATURN.
Even in DXF, only the description about polygons can be used in SATURN, so the polyline etc. you pointed out cannot be used.

Therefore, the elaborate functions unique to the modeler will be repelled when brought to SATURN, and as a result, symptoms such as missing polygons may occur.
Also, since DXF does not have normal data, the normal vector is calculated on the 3D Editor, but it may be inverted depending on the orientation of the constituent vector.

How is 24-bit color PICT data processed when imported into MapEditor?

Q)
What kind of conversion is done when the 24bit RGB color in the PICT file data (source) is read into Map Editor etc.?

Is it possible to perform the following processing on the Map Editor?

A)
Since MapEditor and ScreenEditor cannot have a 32-bit color palette, 24-bit color data is right-shifted by 3 bits for each RGB component to create 16-bit color data.

Use ScreenEditor to create 1x1 cell BG data and MapEditor to create 2x2 cell BG data.

2D Viewer becomes unstable.

Q)
Although it is a 2D Viewer compatible with CartDev, it can be used, but if you try to use functions such as translucency by displaying a large picture (128 x 128 or more?) Or multiple pictures, SCSI access will be extremely slow. , Each function will not work either. Also, when using SEGA Painter, Quick Viewer, etc., frequently (about once every two hours),

"The target may have gone out of control."

Is displayed and it stops.

A)
This is by design. SCSI on Macintosh is often weaker than other models, and if SCSI requests occur frequently, it may malfunction.
Therefore, such symptoms can occur in cases like this question.

Shade3 SEGA3D data and 3D Editor SEGA3D data seem to have different formats.

Q)
It seems that the SEGA3D format created by Shade III for SEGA SATURN and the SEGA3D format created by 3D Editor are different.

A)
Load the SEGA3D format created with Shade III with the 3D Editor and save it again.

Black is missing when setting materials in 32000 color mode.

Q)
Black is missing when setting materials in 32000 color mode

A)
In this mode

(R, G, B) = (0, 0, 0)

This is because the data in is unconditionally treated as transparent.

Is it possible to guarantee the parent-child structure in DXF format?

Q)
Is it not possible to guarantee parent-child relationship information in the DXF file format?

A)
Basically, DXF files do not have a format that shows the parent-child structure of an object. Therefore, when you bring in DXF data, you have to consider that area. As a matter of course, DXF does not have any description about animation, so it is not possible to bring animation data.

When you monitor the animation on SATURN with Sega Painter, the pattern jumps toward the end.

Q)
When I try to check it on the monitor using the animation function of Sega Painter's function, the animation pattern at the end is skipped. Could I ask the reason?

A)
Since all the graphic data used for animation is transferred to CartDev + DevSaturn side in advance, the above phenomenon occurs when the data capacity that can be handled (VRAM 512KB of VDP1) is exceeded. In this case, it is necessary to reduce the size of the object, reduce the animation pattern, and so on.

I'm using Sega Painter and can't use the animation feature.

Q)
I'm using Sega Painter and can't use the animation feature.

A)
Check if CartDev + DevSaturn or graphic box is connected. Animation features require CartDev + DevSaturn or a graphics box.

Without Drag Lib, an error will occur and the tool cannot be started.

Q)
When I try to start Sega Painter

"No Drag Lib"

Error message is displayed and the application does not start.

A)
This is probably because there is no "Macintosh Drag & Drop" or "clipping extension". Please install KanjiTalk 7.5 or later.

The application hangs.

Q)
Macintosh crashes with a freeze or error when using the application.
Or the application doesn't work (some error message appears).

A)
The application may hang in any of the following cases:
please confirm.

  1. Are you using KanjiTalk 7.1? Please use 7.5 or later.

  2. You may be allocating less memory to your application.
Increase the "Used size" in the "Memory requirements" section.

  3. Are you running multiple applications at once?
You will run out of memory, so reduce the number of applications that are running at the same time.

  4. Is Norton Utility, AfterDark, etc. built in?
Please remove the resident software and restart your Mac.

  5. Some "System Extensions" in the "Extensions Folder" may cause a conflict, which may cause them to not work.
Remove the one that is causing the conflict, or change the reading order.

The application does not start.

Q)

A)
You may be allocating less memory to your application. Increase the "Used size" in the "Memory requirements" section.
