SOFTIMAGE

I want to create data for high resolution mode.

Q)
I want to create model data for high resolution. How should I create the SGL format?

A)
Currently, SOFTIMAGE supports only 32000 color RGB modes for texture data. On the other hand, when using the high resolution mode, the texture can only have 8 bits per dot, so RGB cannot be specified. Therefore, when using the high resolution mode screen, it is not possible to do all the work only on SOFTIMAGE. What do you actually do? It is necessary to paste the DGT data written in the number of colors such as 256 colors using "SMAP" provided by Sega for the model created by SOFTIMAGE, and create it as slcon -cm 256 -f filename etc.

I want to set a transparent color for a texture in SOFTIMAGE.

Q)
I tried to create a textured polygon with transparent colors in SOFTIMAGE 3D, but I'm not sure. How should I set the transparent color?

A)
Unfortunately, the current version of Saturn Export does not allow you to set a transparent color. Please set via a tool such as SMAP.

I want to treat multiple models as one model in SOFTIMAGE.

Q)
If you combine multiple polygons (Grids) to create a single object, you will end up with shape data that is expressed in a hierarchical structure. Matrix data push & pop occurs due to the hierarchy, and processing time is wasted, so I would like to make the shape of the same hierarchy if possible. What should I do?

A)
Use a feature called model merging. After selecting all the models you want to combine (in Multi Select mode), select MARGE from the Effects menu of the Models module and set the dialog parameters. A new merged model will be generated. However, in this case all models to be merged must be in contact (or close).
In other cases, you can prevent the loss of Push / Pop processing time by executing slPutPolygon (the number of models to be configured) multiple times in slPushMatrix ~ slPopMatrix.

I want to set the material for each polygon in SOFTIMAGE.

Q)
Even if I transform the Cube etc., it will be the same material and it seems that different textures can not be set, so I am in trouble. Is there a way to set the material for each polygon?

A)
If you hold down the [G] key and click the mouse button button, the polygon will turn red and be selected. In that state, select Assign New Material from the Polygon menu of the Matter module. The same material setting screen as when selecting the Material menu will appear, so set the material here. Be sure to set the global material before setting the local material. (Otherwise, the local material settings will be invalid.)

I want to edit the data created in SOFTIMAGE with 3D Editor etc.

Q)
I would like to edit a model created with SOFTIMEGE 3D, such as pasting a texture with SEGA 3D Editor (Mac). Is this possible? If you can edit it, could you please tell me in detail how to do it?

A)
Convert the model created in SOFTIMEGE 3D to a .dxf file with the standalone soft2dxf command. After converting this .dxf file to the line feed code etc. (although it may be possible automatically on the Mac side), load it into the 3D Editor.

The usage is quite different between SGL's tutorial and the current SOFTIMAGE.

Q)
I'm making a model with SOFTIMAGE while looking at the SGL tutorial, but I'm having a lot of trouble because the content of the tutorial and the actual operation are different.

A)
SOFTIMAGE in the description of the tutorial is written based on the version called Ver. 2.66c. However, the latest version of SOFTIMAGE is Ver. 3.51, so the details are quite different. SOFTIMAGE's 3.0-based Japanese manual is sold by Ado Denshi Kogyo for a fee. Basically, the difference between 3.0 and 3.51 is small, so you should be able to do all this with this manual.
Also, the SATURN related processing is different between the tutorial and the current version. The manual says to use SMAP, but now you can use custom effects such as Saturn Export, Saturn Import, and Saturn Viewer in the Tools module, so these tools are all you need except for special purposes.

I would like to set the sharing of texture data.

Q)
I want to share texture data with SOFTIMAGE, but as far as I can see the data output by Saturn Export, it is not shared correctly.
Is it possible to share texture data with SOFTIMAGE?
Also, if you can, please tell me how to do it.

A)
If you want to share textures in SOFTIMAGE, simply pasting the same texture will not share them. To actually share it, use the Paint menu of the Material module.
Now, copy the texture you want to share to the Clipboard and paste the texture on this Clipboard where you want to share it. Another thing to note is that Saturn Export does not reflect repeated texture specifications and range selection specifications in the Texture menu dialog (2D Local, 2D Global). In that case as well, set it in the Paint menu.

Texture splitting doesn't work.

Q)
I want to paste a texture on multiple polygons in SOFTIMAGE and retrieve the texture data divided for each polygon, but it doesn't work. Is there anything to set?

A)
In the current SOFTIMAGE, when a material is set for multiple polygons, the texture is assigned to the material.
When UV editing is done using the Paint menu of the Matter module, only the modified texture is generated separately.
Therefore, such an operation is not possible inside SOFTIMAGE, but I think that such a requirement can be satisfied to some extent by using Saturn Import that comes with SOFTIMAGE Ver. 3.5x.

First, Saturn Export the desired model. Next, import the exported data with Saturn Import. Save this data as Scene data or Model data. However, please note that bone information and motion information may not be restored accurately.
