DISC format overview


■ Features

The physical format of GAME-CD for this game console conforms to the Semi CD-ROM XA standard.
As a result, interleaved recording, which used to depend on applications, can now be realized as a system, making it easier to play back images and sounds in parallel.

"Semi CD-ROM XA" : Model 1 CD-ROM XA with track

■ Disc size and recording time

Only 12cm CD can be produced. 8cm GAME-CD cannot be manufactured. To avoid trouble, limit the start time of the lead-out area to the following range.

First LSN (# 0) time 00:02:00
Last LSN (~ # 283499) time ~ 63:01:74
Lead-out area start time ~ 63:04:00

Therefore, the maximum recording time is 63 minutes . Multi-session is not available.

■ Line speed and track pitch

The line speed and track pitch of GAME-CD are fixed to the following values in order to improve the accuracy of track jump and increase the seek speed.

■ Disk format

The disc format complies with the following standards.

■ Track layout

The inner peripheral side is the CD-ROM area, and the outer peripheral side is the CD-DA area.

■ Sector structure

Sectors have Mode2 Form1 and Mode2 Form2 with subheaders in addition to the traditional Mode1. Various interleaved recordings using file numbers and channel numbers are possible.

■ ISO9660 compliant

In the ISO9660 standard, the contents of logical sector numbers 0 to 15 are not standardized. It is supposed to be available to CD makers for boot programs, protection information, etc. to boot the system.
By specifying this area in the disc format, GAME-CD can be started. No boot cartridge is required. Logical sector number 16 and above are ISO9660 compliant.
