The only way to inherit the state of a game across multiple discs is to use backup RAM to save that state, except in special cases such as passwords. Therefore, all multi-disc applications that use backup RAM must be designed to save game records when changing discs.
For applications that frequently save records by auto-save, the records are automatically saved immediately before the disc is replaced.
Also, in the case of an application that auto-saves at a specific limited point, that point must be set at the end of play on "Disc 1".
Even in the case of an application in which the user arbitrarily saves the record, it is necessary to forcibly save the record immediately before the disk is replaced. This is because if the game is not saved, the state of the game cannot be inherited, and the second and subsequent cards cannot be advanced.
As shown in the basic design section, backup RAM must always be used in a two-disc application. In the case of a one-disc application, the game had to be playable at the user's discretion even if there was no game record and no free space (the save function could not be used at all). (See Separate Volume 1: "Standards for Creating Backup-Compatible Software")
In a two-disc application, if there is no record of this game and there is no free space (the save function cannot be used at all), there is no means to launch "Disk 2" in a game-effective state. Therefore, before the main game of "Disk 1" starts, take the following warning messages.
If you start the game as it is, you can only play halfway. Do you still want to start the game? Yes, No 】
In addition, in the case of an application that originally uses the save function for purposes other than the purpose of migrating to the second sheet, it is necessary to display a message including the following that the record cannot be saved.
If you start the game as it is, you will not be able to save the record. Also, you can only play halfway. Do you still want to start the game? Yes, No 】However, if the halfway play (playing only the first card) ends in a significantly inappropriate place (if there is a risk of being mistaken for a fatal bug), force the game to play with the above message. Should not be. In that case, the required free space is displayed and a message prompting you to erase the records of other applications is displayed, and the game is not started. (For the message, refer to Separate Volume 1: "Standards for Creating Backup-Compatible Software")
